The organization resides in our own permanent facility, the Young Centre for the Performing Arts, and we will continue to grow our programming and education and outreach activities. Soulpepper is also the managing partner of the Young Centre.

THE POSITION

Responsibilities:
The Government Relations Manager will be responsible for the Government and Advocacy portfolios for both Soulpepper and Young Centre.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Input strategy and plan for achieving government fundraising goals;
  • Liaise with government officials through advocacy and networking activities and brief senior management team;
  • Create and deliver presentations to government funding agencies;
  • Be point person on preparation and submission of all grant proposals, collecting input from Soulpepper / Young Centre departments, editing and managing submission deadlines;
  • Be point person on preparation and submission of interim/final reporting as defined in funding agreements;
  • Research and write compelling proposals for major support from government;
  • Research government funding opportunities and cultivate understanding of government objectives and how they can be met through strategic proposals and approaches;
  • Create reports and documentation for board meetings and the work of board members as assigned;
  • Contribute ideas and help make appropriate solicitation and servicing calls to ensure targets are met;
  • Work with Executive Director to oversee corporate communications;
  • Attend Soulpepper / Young Centre performances, receptions and events as required;
  • Ensure that funding councils and government agencies are properly recognised for their contributions in publications, website, etc.
  • Contributes to the overall success of Soulpepper and the Young Centre by accomplishing related results as needed;
  • Other duties as may be required.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills;
  • Deep knowledge of public sector fundraising;
  • Hands-on experience in government grant writing, submission processes and final reporting;
  • Superior skills in writing and preparation of grant budgets;
  • Advanced awareness of government policy, granting objectives and opportunities;
  • Proven skills and knowledge in securing grants from both the public and private sectors;
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent planning, organizational, time management and team participation skills;
  • Self-starter, detail oriented, flexible;
  • ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;
  • ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment with multiple deadlines;

Education/Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree preferred
  • 3 to 5+ years' experience in not-for-profit fundraising with direct experience in public sector fundraising.

Immediate full-time position for a Hospitality Services Coordinator

The Young Centre for the Performing Arts is seeking a Hospitality Services Coordinator in a full-time capacity to join the Operations Services team.

THE ORGANIZATION
A unique joint venture between Soulpepper Theatre Company and George Brown College, the Young Centre, located in Toronto's Historic Distillery District, is Canada's only performing arts, education and community outreach centre. Designed by Thomas Payne of Toronto's internationally renowned Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects, the facility features 46,000 square feet of combined heritage and contemporary architecture with five flexible performance spaces, ranging in size from 80 to 300 seats; numerous rehearsal studios, classrooms, administrative offices and a central atrium with café/bar.

Job Purpose
The Hospitality Services Coordinator will coordinate events for both the Young Centre for the Performing Arts and Soulpepper to ensure the highest level of customer service and administrative support. They will be called upon for ideas and solutions with a view to growing and promoting the hospitality business.

KEY RESULTS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Creates and executes a consolidated annual event calendar; generating the plan and managing the critical path.
  2. Creates and maintains detailed files recording event logistics, best practices, and evaluations.
  3. Coordinate all hospitality events for Young Centre and Soulpepper.
  4. Works in partnership with Soulpepper's Development team to deliver consistently outstanding stewardship events and corporate functions.
  5. Operates at the highest level of customer service for internal and external clients.
  6. Works closely with Soulpepper's Development team to maintain development-related budgets.
  7. Maximize opportunities for hospitality revenue.
  8. Maintains positive working relationships with internal and external clients and event vendors.
  9. Assists with event-related promotional materials and invitations as needed.
  10. Utilizes the Tessitura database for event tracking.
  11. Contributes to the overall success of Soulpepper and the Young Centre by accomplishing related results as needed.

COMPENSABLE FACTORS

Qualifications

Education: Post secondary degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Experience: 2+ years event planning experience or related experience in the hospitality sector.

Knowledge:

  • Hands on experience in planning events.
  • Superior proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook and Excel.
  • Proven skills and knowledge in client services, food and beverage service and donor relations.
  • Strong understanding of Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario policies.

Skills:

  • Highly detail oriented.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to tackle challenges quickly, creatively and collaboratively.

Problem Solving
Judgement is required in organizing events in a timely manner and coordinating the involvement of artists, donors and staff. It is important to keep all stakeholders informed and organized. Reporting misinformation could lead to damaged relationships with suppliers, artists, donors and clients resulting in donations being compromised and a loss of revenue.

Accountability
Directly accountable for the smooth and successful execution of all on-site events.

Effort
Position requires exceptionally detailed planning and organization with respect to each event. It also requires strong communication skills in order to keep all stakeholders informed and on task to execute each event successfully.

Working Conditions
Performs duties in a regular office environment. Evening work at events and attendance at performances is required throughout the year.
