Soulpepper’s After School Theatre Club: Leading Ladies program is dedicated to the development of young female artists (ages 16-19) who want to be confident and heard. This program provides an all-female creative environment to foster an open and creative atmosphere in which young women can comfortably express themselves and work collectively to produce a presentation that adequately portrays their thoughts and dialogues. The program is free and we provide TTC tickets and snacks for each session.
“I knew it was a total success because from the very first day of the program I felt so comfortable, I couldn’t do what I have done here with my friends.” - Participant
Soulpepper’s After School Theatre Club: Young Artists program aims to make the art of theatre accessible for young people by connecting students from high schools (ages 16-19) across the GTA with Soulpepper artists and the professional theatre community at large. In this six-week program, 16 youth meet twice a week to explore creative writing, improvisation, movement and performance techniques. The work culminates in a youth-developed presentation that is shared with family and friends. The program is free and we provide TTC tickets and snacks for each session.
“I experienced something that I believe truly enriched my life and personality to a point where I’ve made a small but enormous change in my life.” - Participant
Soulpepper’s Studio 55 is a program that takes youth ‘behind-the-scenes' to get a greater understanding of our productions. The group experiences hands-on workshops with a Soulpepper artist, on-stage performances and post-show talkbacks with the cast. Each workshop explores the themes of the show and reveals unique insight on an aspect of theatre production such as direction, design or performance. The Studio 55 guest artists expose the preparation required in the studio before a final product appears on stage. In addition to providing a free workshop and theatre ticket, we provide a per diem for meals and TTC tickets for each session.
Every summer, Soulpepper invites 14 youth (ages 16-19) to work with Soulpepper artists and company mentors in a six-week intensive program. This program is designed to provide youth with creative programming and mentorship opportunities that enhances their knowledge, understanding and experience of the performing arts. The participants are exposed to various forms of art including mask, movement, scene work, writing and dance, and have the opportunity to be personally mentored by a Soulpepper artist. Through these experiences the youth develop a showcase presentation to share with family and friends at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts. No experience is required from the youth, just an interest in exploring the City of Toronto, the arts and the collective creation process with dynamic new people. Each participant receives a $20 per diem per day to help with food and transportation costs. We encourage all youth ages 16 – 19 to apply!
The Youth Leadership Program is Soulpepper's first outreach program for alumni of the Youth Mentorship, Studio 55, and After School Theatre Club programs. The YLP provides an opportunity for our youth to continue their involvement with the company. The YLP participants build on what they've already learned and are given greater responsibility for programming, content and decision-making. The YLP strives to help youth learn skills that will help them move towards college, university and post-secondary arts programs.
