MELISSA JOAKIM

Lighting & Projection Designer, Scenographer, Stage Manager

Melissa Joakim is a lighting and projection designer, scenographer and stage manager in Toronto. She holds a BFA Specialized Honours from York University. She has been nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore Award in Outstanding Lighting Design, and the Pauline McGibbon Award (2017). Recent credits include: Lighting and Projection Design for This is the Point (Theatre Centre and Ahuri Theatre);A Side of Dreams (Paper Canoe and Native Earth Performing Arts); Faust (Theatre by the Bay). Lighting Design for The Whole Shebang: Taken by Night (Dreamwalker Dance Co.); La Chasse Galerie (Soulpepper, Red One Collective and Kabin); Cloud(Scapegoat Collective). Projection Design for Flashing Lights (Bad New Days and Ahuri Theatre), Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Hart House Theatre); The Draupadi Project (Riser Project and Why Not Theatre). She is the touring lighting designer and stage manager for Theatre Centre’s Sea Sick which has toured internationally and across Canada, most recently playing at the Sydney Festival in Australia.
