We think theatre makes a city better: not only as entertainment, though joy matters, and not only as culture, though culture matters, but as civic practice—a place to gather and find, through art, that we’re not alone in facing our biggest questions. At its core, theatre is more than a producer of stories. It is a space to practice connection in real time.
This season is about contact: what it means to reach across distance between lovers, friends, generations, neighbours, strangers, and communities. These plays ask whether love, friendship, imagination, and solidarity can still remake the world.
We believe they can.
Again and again, these works remind us that in a changing world, what sustains us is each other: the people we choose, the communities we fight for, and the futures we dare to imagine.
That is why this season also reaches beyond the stage. Through civic partnerships and public programming, including Toronto Star Live and Hot Docs, we are expanding what it means to gather at Soulpepper, making it not only a theatre you visit, but a place where Toronto comes to think, feel, and dream.
So come to our theatre. Come for great plays reimagined, for bold new perspectives, for beauty, laughter, feeling, and music. Come because a city needs places where the public can meet as citizens. Come because theatre, at its best, helps us remember who we are to one another, and to the world around us.
We’re so proud to welcome you into this first season.
