MICHAELA WASHBURN
Michaela is a Métis artist of English, Irish, French and Cree descent. Hailing from the prairies, Michaela is now based in Tkaronto. She recently appeared in Daniel David Moses’ Almighty Voice and His Wife, directed by Jani Lauzon, at Soulpepper. Her credits also include: Guarded Girls (Tarragon/Green Light Arts), Grace (Nightwood), La Bête (Soulpepper), Animal Farm (Soulpepper). Michaela won best actress in the general-theatre division for her multifaceted performance as Métis leader Louis Riel in Confederation & Riel, produced by VideoCabaret in association with Soulpepper. Film and television credits include: Burden of Truth, Baroness Von Sketch, Just One Word, The River You Step In.
Michaela has performed internationally at festivals and theatres in Wales, Aruba and across Canada and the United States. She was nominated for the Ontario Arts Council Indigenous Arts Award and K.M. Hunter Artist Award for Theatre. Michaela is also a proud member of CAEA’s elected national council.
