Thomas Mitchell Barnet
Thomas is an actor and musician from Edmonton, Alberta. Theatre credits include Scorpius in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (Mirvish); Treasure Island and Romeo and Juliet (Stratford). TV credits include Sam Lesser in Locke and Key (Netflix). Outside of acting, music has always been Thomas' passion. In 2021 he self produced and released the album All the Tapes under the artist name Haystacks. He is currently working on a follow up album as well as a solo show, and he enjoys hosting house concerts featuring local musicians. He is so excited to get to work with his fellow artists!
Where are you in your artistic journey at the moment? What are you excited about now that you are accepted into the Academy? What do you hope to learn during your time at Soulpepper?
"I'm trying to disentangle myself from old notions of what constitutes good work. I'm trying to be less afraid of being bad, of what I don't know. I'm trying to resist the urge to intellectualize. All this is in order to (hopefully!) discover a more essential connection to my art.
I'm excited to learn and explore! It's such a privilege to be in an environment like this again. I'm excited for a safe space to express myself and think about and work on theatre. I'm also excited to get to know the other artists in the program!!
To have fun? Just kidding (I have fun :D). Well, I have a lot of little questions floating around, particularly regarding my acting, for example. But broadly speaking I hope to take another step towards understanding my theatrical voice as a performer and a creator. I hope to understand a bit better how I fit into theatre as an artist, not just as an actor, and what stories are important for me to tell. I also hope to learn tons of gossip ;) (kidding again!)."
