Movie Night Double Feature: The Witch & Cancer Szn
Join the Public Domain team and our programming partner Sleepless Cinema for one of our quarterly movie night double feature screening of Robert Egger's The Witch (2015) and Zach Green's Cancer Szn (2024).
The Witch: In 1630’s New England, a Puritan family relocates to a remote plot of land on the edge of a forest. Suspicion and paranoia mount when their newborn son mysteriously vanishes, and their crops fail and family members begin accusing their teenage daughter of witchcraft. The Witch is a portrait of a family unraveling in the wilderness from fear, anxiety and isolation.
Cancer Szn: Patty, a modern witch, harbours a suffocating obsession for her former friend, Elaine. When she learns that Elaine's new girlfriend, Lauren, shares the same birthday as her, she casts a body-swapping spell that grants her the relationship of her dreams. But love is more than skin deep.
The Witch & Cancer Szn are screening in conjunction with Soulpepper’s upcoming production Witch.
A discussion exploring female agency and themes of control and shame as a social weapon will follow the screening with Witch Director Courtney Ch'ng Lancaster, Me Time, Lisa Marie and Karyn Little, moderated by Sleepless Cinema's Rachel Peterson.
