Spooky Movie Double Feature: The Fly & Lavenza

Soulpepper has teamed up with Sleepless Cinema to present a horrific evening featuring David Cronenberg’s The Fly (1986), Lauren Eden’s short film Lavenza (2024). Following the screening, Sleepless Cinema will host a captivating panel discussion about body horror exploring themes of disease, decay, and dissolution of self. 

The Fly: When Seth Brundle makes a huge scientific and technological breakthrough in teleportation, he decides to test it on himself. Unbeknownst to him, a common housefly manages to get inside the device and the two become one. 

Lavenza: When Lavenza, a 19th-century noblewoman, overhears her husband complaining about her looks, she turns herself into his ideal wife by thrifting the body parts from all the women he desires.
